Thom Atkins Beadwork, Quilts and Sculpture
by Ethel Swartley

As I was wandering the quilt web this month, everything I was    finding seemed to look like something I’d reviewed  before. Then in in search of beaded quilts, I stumbled across Thom Atkins’ website. Thom started out as a sculptor, working in bronze, and you will surely want to see his tongue-in-cheek section entitled “Guys with Balls.”

Don't worry; they are nudes, but they are not X-rated.
Late in life, Thom switched his focus from bronze sculpture to beading, inspired by his sister Robin Atkins, who has a wonderful beading website of her own. Since then, Thom has created intricate quilts that he calls “beaded tapestries”, including a bright red one called “Colorado Sunset.” Descriptions of his intricate work cannot do it justice, so I encourage you to check out his website and
photos. With his intense beadwork, I’m sure the photos do not do justice either, but Thom has shared them so that we who are not lucky enough to see his work in person
can still be awed by it.

Hello and Welcome to CTQC

Common Thread Quilt Club of Parker, CO was created in August of 2004 as a social quilting group for local quilters.  The group provides education and networking opportunities to its members and is dedicated to providing quilts for philanthropic causes on a
consistent basis.

Our regular meetings are held on the second Monday
of each month.
All are welcome to attend, no RSVP is required. Be sure to check our calendar for a list of all of our upcoming events and details.

Common Thread Quilt Club is a wonderful group of talented people, and we hope youwill join us!  Our group is fairly unstructured and small,
and we like to refer toourselves as a club rather than a guild in order to promote a small town feel. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact one of our members.
